Lesson Plan Goal Evaluation

My third goal from my PDP-Part A was to learn how to incorporate technology tools to activities and lesson plans. W200 has showed us how to find and use different lesson plan resources. There are multiple different sources that include many plans for each grade and subject area. They give detail on what should be taught, as well as ways to teach the information and assess the children on their understanding. You can incorporate technology tools and activities by adding links to the lesson plans. For instance, adding a link to a powerpoint presentation that has a flash card assessment game. This is a beneficial way to test the children and have fun at the same time.

Cyberbullying Evaluation

Another one of my goals for my PDP-Part A was to learn how to handle cyberbullying. When I first heard the term, I was not aware of the connotation of the word. I now know it is when people use the internet or other communication tools to torment, embarrass, or humiliate others. This occurs through instant messaging, blogs, websites, and pictures. There is not one way to handle cyberbullying; however, there are ways to prevent it from occurring. Parents can get involved, or the technological source that was being used should have higher security precautions, including passwords.

Goal Evaluation

As part of my PDP-Part A one of my goals was to learn how to use blog software to set up my own blog. Fortunately in W200 part of the lesson plan was to create a blog. Through Blogger.com I have learned how to post various blogs on my page, including different resources or sites that we have learned about.

Activity 5 module

Ashley Feffer, Lauren Ficko
Social Studies Unemployment Rates
1. First we clicked on the “yearly unemployment Data” tab.
2. Next we hit the axis plot button on the lower left hand side of the document.
3. After we changed the axis buttons by clicking on the horizontal label first and changed it to “year”; and then we clicked the vertical axis and changed it to “Average Unemployment (%)

After the September 2008 Wall Street collapse the unemployment rates steadily increased. Before the collapse occurred the unemployment rate remained constant between about four and six percent. Over time the unemployment rate has increased. In the 1980’s the unemployment rate was rather high, and then decreased through the 1990’s, but once the Wall Street collapse took place the unemployment rate shot back up. There does not seem to be any trends between months. The rate of unemployment is constant with the year, but not the month.
Indiana Unemployment rate

National Unemployment Rate

The national unemployment rate is lower than the state of Indiana’s unemployment rate for 2009 and 2010; however, the unemployment rate within the nation and the state of Indiana for 2008 is almost the same.

We gathered data of the unemployment’s rate in the United States as a whole, as well as the state of Indiana. The module station helped collect and analyze data. We also were taught how to create tables and graphs through InspireData. In order for us to collect data we researched the unemployment rates on the internet, and then organized the data with InspireData.
I enjoyed this activity because it taught me how to create plots and graphs with InspireData. It also showed me how to gather information that InspireData already had to offer, without collecting the data on my own. If I was the teacher, InspireData would be very benefical to my work. It can help you create graphs and plots that can be used as part of solving an equation. The one thing that I did not like about this activity is that it was pretty difficult to collect the data for Indiana's unemployment rate. The reason teachers may not like this activity is that it doesn't provide information for every class subject. The most suprising fact about this activity is that InspireData has a lot of information regarding the United States.
